Overview and Benefits of AgilePM

AgilePM provides guidance for the successful delivery of agile projects. It offers a practical and repeatable methodology that achieves an ideal balance between the standards, rigour and visibility required for good project management, and the fast pace, change and empowerment provided by agile.

DSDM / AgilePM Philosophy and Fundamentals

The Philosophy drives the entire methodology:

Best business value emerges when projects are aligned to clear business goals, deliver frequently and involve the collaboration of motivated and empowered people.

During your Rezound training you'll learn how the philosophy is put into practice.

AgilePM Principles

There are eight Principles in AgilePM that support the Philosophy:

  1. Focus on the business need
  2. Deliver on time
  3. Collaborate
  4. Never compromise quality
  5. Build incrementally from firm foundations
  6. Develop iteratively
  7. Communicate continuously and clearly
  8. Demonstrate control

The Principles are themselves supported by People (with defined roles and responsibilities) and are further evidenced in AgilePM's Processes, Products and Practices.

AgilePM Process

AgilePM stands out in the Agile world in that it integrates project management and product development in a single process. There are 6 phases within the Process which need to be addressed and configured to ensure the correct life-cycle is implemented.

Solution development and delivery is both iterative and incremental. Business needs are driven from prioritised requirements, with the most important business needs being addressed early and less important features are delivered later. The interative development process allows continuous feedback which allows the solution to evolve under guidance of the business representative.

Phases of the AgilePM Process

  • Pre-Project
  • Feasibility
  • Foundations
  • Evolutionary Development
  • Deployment
  • Post-Project

We'll help you learn how to configure the phases to provide the appropriate life-cycle for each of your projects.

AgilePM People

People working together effectively are the foundation of any successful project. AgilePM defines clear roles and responsibilities , representing the business, the solution/technical, management and process interests, respectively.

There are three Role Categories:

Project-level Roles

  • Business Sponsor - the project 'champion' owner of the Business Case
  • Business Visionary - strategist who drives the project
  • Technical Coordinator - ensures technical coherence
  • Project Manager - Agile-style leader and manager of the working environment
  • Business Analyst - ensure accurate and appropriate day-to-day decisions are made

Solution Development Team (SDT) Roles

  • Business Analyst - also embedded in the SDT. See above
  • Team Leader - servant-leader to the SDT
  • Business Ambassador - key representative of the business
  • Solution Developer - develops solution from the business requirements
  • Solution Tester - testing throughout the project

Supporting Roles

  • Business Advisor - business subject matter expert / specialist
  • Technical Advisor - technical specialist supporting the SDT
  • Workshop Facilitator - workshop organiser and facilitator
  • DSDM Coach - supporting the team with the AgilePM approach

Some roles can be held by the same person, some roles by multiple persons (e.g. 'Solution Developer'). We cover the interactions between roles in detail during the course.

AgilePM Products

The products listed are guidelines to the information needed to promote good communication within a project. They are not mandatory, and may not always be presented as documents. Their creation supports projects with strong governance / compliance requirements.

During the course we develop examples of each Product while exploring the project lifecycle.

AgilePM Practices

AgilePM incorporates a set of Practices which, in line with the Philosophy allow rapid, value driven and collaborative development of the solution.

  • Facilitated Workshops
  • MoSCoW Prioritisation
  • Iterative Development
  • Modelling
  • Timeboxing
  • Requirements and User Stories

During the course we cover each of the above in detail including their recommended usage in a project.

How does the Certification Process Work?

There are two AgilePM exams - Foundation and Practitioner. We'll make sure you're well prepared for these.

During the course we provide training to cover the Foundation and Practitioner levels and work through a representative project journey, ensuring understanding of each element and how they work together.

Practice exams are provided and feedback given to help with your preparation.

For physically attended classes we provide paper-based exams. For virtually attended courses the exams are computer based.
